Spain Wins Olympic Gold in Men's Football, Defeating Host France 5-3 in Extra Time
This marks Spain's second Olympic gold medal in history, following their first win in 1992 in Barcelona. They have also claimed three silver medals previously. Enzo Millot gave France an early lead in the 12th minute, but Fermin Lopez equalized for Spain just three minutes later.
In the 25th minute, Fermin Lopez scored his second goal of the game and for Spain, followed by Alix Pena's third goal in the 28th minute. However, France fought back, with Magnus Aklious scoring a goal to reduce the deficit in the 79th minute. Just before the end of the second half, Jean-Philippe Mateta equalized for France with a penalty kick.
The score remained tied at 3-3 after regular time, prompting the match to go into extra time. Spain took the lead again in the second extra time period, with Sergio Camello scoring the fourth goal for Spain. In the final minute of the second extra time period, Camello scored again, securing the fifth goal for Spain and the win.
